The Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Island Port Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, has reiterated the unwavering commitment to combat corruption, echoing the stance of the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.

Comptroller Nnadi emphasized this while surrendering $54,330 in bribe money for the smuggling of Tramadol worth over N856 million to Mr. Michael Wetkas, Lagos Zonal Commander of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday.

The falsely declared Tramadol, camouflaged as electrical appliances aimed to conceal their true nature, and the cash was offered in an attempt to compromise customs officers.

The Controller highlighted the blatant violation of Section 233 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCSA) 2023 and praised the officers for upholding ethical and lawful practices in the interest of national security.

He further called for continuous compliance on the part of port users and reminded them that the NCS with the collaboration of sister agencies like the EFCC would continue to frustrate criminal activities in the port.

Nnadi lauded the officers, who under whose  watch, the seizure was achieved and described them  as  good ambassadors  of the NCS.

“The two suspects arrested in connection with the two containers are currently being investigated by the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control for possible prosecution,” he said.

Nnadi expressed gratitude to Comptroller Oloyede, applauding his leadership for the successful seizure and commending him as a role model within the NCS.

The two suspects linked to the containers are currently under investigation by the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control for potential prosecution.

Upon receiving the cash, Mr. Michael Wetkas celebrated the achievement as a victory for the country and all security agencies, particularly acknowledging the dedication of the NCS officers involved.

Wetkas praised the Comptroller General for a commendation letter appreciating the six customs officers who resisted pressure and inducements from the drug’s owners.

He pledged ongoing collaboration between EFCC, NCS, and sister agencies, emphasizing the end of working in isolation as agencies now operate more closely.
