Transport Minister Calls For Partnership With South Korea In Rail Sector

The Minister of Transport Senator Idris Umar has reiterated Federal Government’s  commitment to developing Nigerian rail sector through public/private partnership (PPP).
The minister said this while receiving in audience the Korean business delegation led by Korean Ambassador to Nigeria , His Excellency Jong-Hyum Choi who paid him a courtesy call in his earlier in the week.

The Minister of Transport Senator Idris Umar has reiterated Federal Government’s  commitment to developing Nigerian rail sector through public/private partnership (PPP).
The minister said this while receiving in audience the Korean business delegation led by Korean Ambassador to Nigeria , His Excellency Jong-Hyum Choi who paid him a courtesy call in his earlier in the week.
The minister, who was represented by the permanent secretary, Engr Nebolisa Emodi said that continued partnership with the private sector would enable the government to develop its infrastructural facilities noting that investment opportunities are bound in the transport sector which is the key to the Federal government’s transformation agenda. He said that the ministry had developed 25years master plan for the construction of new standard gauge line as well as rehabilitation of existing narrow gauge rail line.
He however said that funds were the major constraint in the actualization of the Master Plan, calling on foreign investors to partner with the government in order to achieve government’s objective in the transport sector.
Earlier, the Southern Korean Ambassador to Nigeria;  Jong-Hyum Choi explained that his mission to the ministry was to partner with the Federal Government in the area of transportation with particular reference to railway project.
He said that the Republic of South Korea was once a poor country without national endowment but, she has risen to be the 10thlargest economy through the development of human resources especially in the infrastructure sector.
Also speaking the leader of the leader of the delegation Mr Park Min Wao reiterated the interest of the Korean Rail in partnering with Nigeria to develop rail infrastructure because according to him, there can be no meaningful infrastructural development without the active participation of the rail sector.
