In response to the increasing cases of abuses of trucking regulations within the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) which is causing disruptions to port operations, the management of Trucks Transit Parks (TTP) has announced series of measures to address the issue and ensure the smooth flow of cargo through the port.
According to an official notice from TTP management which was made available to our correspondent on Thursday, a significant number of trucks have been accessing the LPC only to experience delays in admission by the APM terminal, leading to congestion and inefficiencies within the port environment.
To combat this problem, it noted that the Nigerian Ports Authority’s (NPA) monitoring team/task force is set to commence an effective port clearance exercise aimed at identifying and taking immediate anction against trucks that stall within the port premises.
The sanction regime, as outlined by the TTP, includes the impoundment of trucks found culpable of stalling within the port. Additionally, their number plates will be deactivated on the electronic call-up system (eto) for a period of 90 days. In a further step, all eto profiles linked to the booking of such stalling trucks will be deactivated indefinitely, emphasizing the severity of the measures to be imposed.
TTP also urged the entire trucking community to take note of these measures and ensure strict compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) for processing trucks to the port. According to TTP, failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in the loss of eto profiles or truck deactivation, posing a significant deterrent to those causing disruptions within the port premises.
It also appealed to stakeholders, including truck owners, operators, and relevant authorities, are encouraged to cooperate fully with the NPA monitoring team/task force.
“It is imperative that the entire trucking community take note of this publication and ensure strict compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) for processing trucks to the port. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in the loss of eto profiles or truck deactivation.
“We urge all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the NPA monitoring team/task force and to proactively address any challenges or concerns related to truck operations at LPC. By working together, we can ensure the smooth and efficient movement of cargo through the port, thereby enhancing the overall productivity and competitiveness of our maritime industry” the notice stated.
