In a statement made available to Shipping Position Daily last week, the Ogun State-based maritime school disclosed that it was selected through commendations from stakeholders in the maritime industry.
The letter dated August 8th and sent to the School's Director stated that SMA is now recognised by ABMA and as such, has become a “part of a selection network of centres worldwide with prominent standing that are committed to learning excellence”.
The document signed by the Business Development Manager, of ABMA; Ayran Myhill further stated that with the recognition ,the responsibility of ensuring ABMA qualifications are delivered to the highest possible standards in Nigeria now rests on the shoulders of SMA.
The UK based academy also urged the Nigerian affiliate to “create awareness campaign programme to promote its qualification extensively and incorporate ABMA into the centre marketing strategy.”
ABMA also stated that SMA has been authorised to locally reproduce more of the registration and examination material when necessary.
By virtue of the recognition, SMA has been encouraged to familiarise itself with the materials, document and necessary information from the school’s head office in UK.
Responding to the development, an elated Rector of Stars Maritime Academy; Dr. Reuben Ovai affirmed that the ABMA found the school worthy of the partnership hence it has become the centre for examination in Nigeria.
He stressed that the approval from the UK based school is an added impetus, which also sends a positive signal to the nation in general and the maritime sector in particular.
He disclosed that the school offer courses like shipping and logistics, marketing management, leisure and tourism management, business management, computer engineering.
