Assumedly, they’ve been handling fuel with additives. Bulk carrier arrived at Nevelsk Anchorage on Feb 13, most probably for loading coal

The Chinese general cargo vessel MING YANG ZHOU 179 which developed heavy list and later\capsized last week in Yellow sea

General cargo vessel MING YANG ZHOU 179 developed heavy list and later reportedly, capsized, on Feb 17, in Yellow sea some 24 nm ENE of Weihai, China, while en route from Shanghai to Tianjin. 12 crew were rescued by SAR helicopter and ship. As of 0415 UTC Feb 18, ship’s status is unknown, last AIS dated 2000 UTC Feb 17.

FELICITY ACE is to be towed to nearest shelter, owner of the ship is to appoint salvage company. Spanish trawler sank off Newfoundland, UPDATE, cause of sinking

SPANISH TRAWLER

Feb 16 UPDATE: As of morning, according to latest updates, 10 fishermen were picked up dead, 3 were rescued, remaining 11 are still missing, with almost no hope of recovering anyone alive, considering the weather and water temperature. There was 24 crew on board, comprising 16 Spaniards, 5 Peruvians and at least 3 Ghanaians.

With regards to the cause of sinking – the ship obviously, capsized: no distress signal from the ship was sent; JRCC was alerted by distress signal automatically sent by EPIRB; those who managed to leave the ship got onto life raft or rafts; life rafts were released, no doubt, automatically.

What was the cause of capsizing? It’s hardly a mystery. There were a number of similar disasters with Russian trawlers in icy winter waters of Russian Far East and Arctic seas, all occurring under similar circumstances – rough seas, freezing temperature both air and water, icing in some cases, and most importantly, maneuvering during trawl hauling.

Car carrier close contact with shoreline road, Netherlands

Car carrier VIKING SEA on Feb 17 went out of control in Noordzeekanaal, Ijmuiden, Netherlands, sailing upstream from Noordersluis to port of destination Amsterdam. The ship was pushed by strong wind, went off course, and though she managed to drop anchor or both anchors, she couldn’t come to full stop and ran onto embankment of Kanaaldijk road at around 1340 UTC, though ot was more of a contact, that grounding. She was taken off embankment some 15-20 minutes later, and resumed sailing. She berthed in Amsterdam at 1530 UTC Sep 17.
