Crewmember of Danish Training Ship Dies After Falling off the Mast

DANISH TRAINING SCHOOL

A crewmember of the three-masted, full-rigged school ship, DANMARK, was killed when he fell off the mast he was working on. The victim was a 23-year-old Danish citizen. The accident occurred when the ship was at the port of Assens.

The victim fell from the mast at 1145 hours local time and was quickly taken to Odense University Hospital, where, at 1320 hours, he was pronounced dead. An investigation has been opened into Denmark’s Labor safety regulator and the Danish Maritime Authority.

Fishing vessel aground, no leak, crew fate of no interest

Tuna fishing vessel WEN HANG DAR 168 ran aground at 0215 LT (UTC +4) Feb 23 at Pointe aux Sables, Mauritius, some 2 nm west of Port Louis. Understood 25 crew remain on board, hopefully they’re safe. Local media said that vessel has some 90 tons of fuel on board, no leak reported. No word on crew – there’s no leak, that’s all that matters. In many maritime accidents reports, nowadays, it’s a pattern – first and foremost goes info on “environment threat” or damage, crews are secondary.
