Hapag-Lloyd’s container ship crew medevaced with chemical burn off Shanghai

Container ship TAYMA EXPRESS early in the morning Sep 23 requested medical assistance to a crew member who suffered chemical burn, and whose condition was deteriorating. The according to official report, was under way, some 70 nm SE of Shanghai. SAR vessel DONG HAI JIU 321 was sent, injured crew member was safely disembarked onto SAR vessel, and later transferred to hospital.

According to track, TAYMA EXPRESS on Sep 22 arrived at Yangshan Port anchorage on Sep 22 from Qingdao, in the evening same day she left anchorage and sailed towards Yangtze estuary, where she was met by DONG HAI JIU 321 early Sep 23. After disembarking injured crew, TAYMA EXPRESS returned to Yangshan Anchorage, on Sep 24 berthed and on Sep 25 left Yangshan, bound for Kaohsiung Taiwan.

Container ship and Aframax tanker collided in Malacca Strait

Aframax tanker ZEPHYR I collided with container ship GSL GRANIA at around 0430 LT (UTC +8) Sep 27 in Malacca Strait halfway between Malacca City and Singapore, understood both container ship and tanker in load were sailing in the same eastern direction. Tanker struck container ship stb stern, both ships sustained heavy damages, both ships have been anchored after collision and as of 2250 LT remained anchored. Tanker loaded with bitumen was en route to China, container ship was en route from Savannah to Tanjung Pelepas, ETA Sep 27.

BULK CARRIER

Bulk carrier interrupted Bosphorus transit while en route to Russia

Bulk carrier VIVA ECLIPSE suffered rudder failure at around 1330 UTC Sep 28 in southern Bosphorus shortly after she entered the Strait for a north bound transit, en route to Tuapse Russia. The ship dropped anchor, but not for long – she was taken on tow by tugs and started moving back to Marmara sea at around 1400 UTC, thus interrupting her transit. She was moving under tow as of 1550 UTC, destination most probably, Zeytinburnu anchorage, Istanbul, Marmara sea. If traffic in the Strait was suspended, suspension lasted for a short time, an hour maybe.
