5 tanker crew including Captain poisoned, hospitalized, Istanbul
Tanker SEALION 1 requested medical assistance to 5 poisoned crew, in the evening Oct 9. Tanker is anchored at Bakirkoy, Istanbul, Marmara sea, bound for Novorossiysk. Understood crew were poisoned by fumes in empty cargo tanks, while cleaning tank or tanks, or checking. Captain reportedly, also got poisoned, during tanks check, most probably. All 5 crew were evacuated by SAR boat and transferred to hospital.
Eight Crew Members Of The Sunken Tugboat Saved
About eight crew members of a tugboat were rescued on October 9 after the vessel reportedly sank in the waters of Golo Island in Occidental Mindoro province, per a social media post published by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).The M/B RG Brothers initially rescued the five members of the tugboat Betheva 2’s crew on October 8. They were reportedly taken to Golo Island’s Barangay (village) Talaotao for medical assistance. Alfie Dangue, the tugboat’s captain and one of those who were first rescued, mentioned in a social media post published by the PCG that they’d been sailing from Manila’s South Harbor while going to Rio Tuba, Palawan. During that time, they suddenly encountered a massive wave that led to flooding in the ship’s engine room. The tugboat eventually sank close to 2:30 pm on Saturday.
Research ship capsized, sank, Mauritania
Fisheries Research Ship AL-AWAM sank on Oct 9 or earlier in Nouadhibou harbor, Mauritania. The ship capsized and rested starboard side on bottom, remaining partially above waterline. AL-AWAM was acquired in 1997 from Japan, specifically for fishery research works. For about a year prior to sinking, she was in a lay-up waiting for repairs, so in all probability, she sank because of lack of proper maintenance.
Container ship TSS PEARL sank, drifting containers in the area VIDEO
Container ship TSS PEARL on Oct 13 reported sank in Red sea after major fire. Many floating containers reported drifting in the area. From the looks of her, ship is suffering a major fire which erupted in containers, with thick black smoke billowing from burning containers, superstructure is engulfed in smoke and probably, fire, and is obviously uninhabitable. All 25 crew abandoned the ship and were rescued, understood by passing tanker. Later they’ve been taken by Saudi Arabia CG and disembarked at Jazan Port, Saudi Arabia, all are safe. Ship’s AIS is off – no wonder here. Passing ships in the area give burning ship’s location a wide berth, understood avoiding possible toxic smoke, fumes and explosions.
Ro-ro cargo ship ran aground off Tripoli
Ro-ro cargo ship MED BRIDGE with vehicles and passengers on board ran aground on rocks of Ramkeen Island, Palm Islands, 3.5 nm off Tripoli, Lebanon, at around 1800 UTC Oct 13, straying off traffic lane. 47 people on board were evacuated, divers are said to already survey ship’s hull, she’s expected to be refloated during daytime Oct 14. Was still aground as of 0500 UTC Oct 14. MED BRIDGE is en route from Turkey to Tripoli, she’s deployed on Tasucu (Turkey) – Tripoli service.
MSC container ship disabled in Dardanelles
Container ship MSC MALENA suffered engine failure in front of Canakkale, Dardanelles, at around 0740 UTC Oct 10, while transiting the Strait en route from Tekirdag to Italy. Traffic Control Center tugs responded, the ship is to be towed to Erenkoy Anchorage, southern Dardanelles.
Offshore Support Vessel Hit FPSO Due To High Seas And Bad Weather, Both Damaged
Last week, an offshore support vessel named the NOR GOLIATH reportedly established contact with the new FPSO RUBY at India’s Kakinada Anchorage, Bay of Bengal, resulting in severe damages to the NOR GOLIATH gangway that is used for transferring offshore staff, and to the staircases of FPSO RUBY.
NOR GOLIATH gangway reportedly broke into two parts, with one of the parts collapsing into the water. Contact was the result of high seas and poor weather. However, no individual suffered injuries.
FPSO operator Reliance confirmed the accident on October 7. As of October 9, both vessels were reportedly anchored off Kakinada. The FPSO RUBY is expected to be deployed in the MJ gas condensate development assignment.
