Sand carrier capsized, sank in Hainan Strait, 2 dead, 4 missing

Sand carrier SHUNAN66 issued distress signal at around 1800 Beijing time Oct 13 in Hainan Strait, South China, reporting imminent danger of capsizing, and requesting assistance. SAR ships and ships in the area responded, SHUNAN66 capsized and sank soon after issuing distress. 4 crew managed to get to lifeboat, and later were picked up, all safe. 6 crew were missing. 2 people were spotted in water in picked up, both found to be dead, both identified as SHUNAN66 crew members. 4 crew remain missing.

Container ship contacted dolphins in Kiel Canal

Container ship ELBSKY contacted several dolphins while transiting Kiel Canal in the morning Oct 13, in Kudensee area, near Brunsbuettel. One dolphin reportedly was destroyed, two damaged. The ship suffered 25-meter long scratches and probably dents, above waterline. She was allowed to resume transit, being en route from Aarhus to Hamburg. She berthed at Hamburg in the afternoon same day.

General cargo ship beached by storm, Bay of Bengal

General cargo MV MAA at night Oct 12 lost both her anchors and was beached at Visakhapatnam, India, Bay of Bengal, when storm bashed the area. The ship was deployed in Visakhapatnam – Mongla, Bangladesh, regular cargo service. No other information yet available.

Cargo ship collided with fishing boat off Yeosu, Korea

General cargo ship WIN HERO collided with 5-ton fishing boat off Yeosu, South Korea, at around 0400 Seoul time Oct 13, understood collision was caused by irresponsible fishing boat sailing. WIN HERO bow sustained superficial damages, fishing boat was reportedly, seriously damaged, but remained afloat and under way. No injures reported.

Fire in tanker engine room, Argentina

Fire erupted in engine room of tanker DI GIUNTA E at Campana, Parana Delta, Argentina, on Oct 12. Tanker is understood to be in process of total overhaul. Fire was extinguished by teams of fire protection service by foam, and after that, engine room was thoroughly checked for possible smoldering spots, and cooled. No injures reported.
