Karin Orsel, President of WISTA (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association) announced during the recent WISTA Executive Committee meeting the formation of WISTA Japan. This brings the total number of WISTA chapters to 34 globally.
“One of the highlights of this meeting in Singapore was the official founding of WISTA Japan. Thanks to the commitment of Yoriko Ishida, and Shoko Kaminori, Japan now is the 5th Asian country with its own WISTA Chapter” stated Orsel.
The Executive Committee of WISTA meets twice a year regarding the administration and direction of the organization. It rotates its meetings throughout the global network of WISTA.
Regarding the international flavor of the association, President Karin Orsel observed: “Singapore is such a mixed group of nationalities and so is WISTA. This is what WISTA is all about, it should not make any difference where we work or live, we can always reach out to each other, do business with each other and catch up with friends.“
In addition to welcoming WISTA Japan, the Executive Committee also addressed the upcoming Paris Annual Conference being held October 3-5 which will feature a “Women at Sea” seminar, presentation on the program of the Blue MBA, how to increase doing business with each other, and the logistics for a WISTA ASIAN PACIFIC Conference.
The WISTA Executive Committee also welcomed the presidents and members of WISTA Singapore, Philippines, China, and Australia. “We wish to show our support to the further development of our Asian Chapters, and are delighted that they joined us and learned more about the inner workings of the organization. We look forward to meeting them again in Paris during our Annual Conference“, said Orsel.
Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) is an international organization for women in management positions involved in maritime transportation business and related trades worldwide. WISTA is a major player in attracting more women to the industry and in supporting women in management positions. With networking, education and mentoring in focus we can enhance members’ competence and empower career success.
