The Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and water Transport Senior Staff Association, Western zone [shipping zonal council] has elected a six- man executive to run its activities.
The election which took place in Lagos recently, produced Engineer Reginald Onyenobi as chairman and Captain Randol Onoita as vice Chairman.
Others elected include, Captain Ben Bekes as the secretary, [awaiting clearance], Engineer Doris Ebi as Assistance Secretary, Engineer Olalekun Onanuga as treasurer of the zone and Engineer Augustine Olise as ex officio.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman of the zone, Engineer Reginald Onyenobi thanked members on behalf of the elected executives for the opportunity given to him to carry the mantle of leadership of the association.
‘’On behalf of all the elected members and the opportunity given to us to carry the mantle of leadership of the great association, we do our best to ensure that the association move towards in achieving common goals’’.
Engineer Onyenobi commended the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency [NIMASA] for the ongoing sensitization forum adding that seafarers should be involved in such initiative as they play a dominant role for the cabotage act to succeed.
The chairman also appealed to the apex maritime agency to use the fund generated from waiver to empower seafarers in job creation.
‘’We equally appeal to them the Nigeria Maritime Administration Safety Agency[NIMASA] to use the fund generated from waiver to empower seafarers in the area of manpower development and to carry the seafarers along as they are part of the stakeholders that make cabotage to succeed especially in the area of employment’’,he stated.
According to him, new executive will work within the framework of various legislation which includes the association ‘rules and regulation and to build a robust union where everybody will be carried along.
