I expected that NPA did due diligence before they started the operation, because if they had done that they would have looked at the likely problems, how do I mean, there has been an entrenched system through which some people have been helping themselves at the detriment of other people.
We are expecting NPA to look at the cause and the causes of that corrupt practice in that axis, there are allegations that all those security agencies, all officials of NPA, all manner of tax forces that amass on that bridge are making a lot of money. There is need for NPA to go to the basic thing the e-call up entails, more importantly there should be will on the part of the government to enforce the law. The government needs to fix the route that is outside the port, because what they are seeing on the road is a result of the ineptitude and corruption inside the port and if the government does not clear the rot in the port, you will continue to see those vehicles on the road.

Let the government match words with action, for the e-call up to work, there is need for government to strictly monitor the way and manner these trucks come in and leave the port, it is not just enough to say we have an e- call up system in place, let them monitor it, they can’t just believe that people will comply to laws or regulations like that. So my advice is for them to put in the same action they put in the very first week where we have several security men on ground, let them be on ground, let them arrest those who will not comply and you will see changes.

Nigeria is all about enforcement, we make law, the law is there and when there is nobody to enforce it, it becomes a failure. The e-call up system is for those who factor and authorize it and implementing it also has to do with our disciplined nature; people should obey the law as law is meant to be obeyed.
If you know that your truck is not given call up into the port, why bring it to the road.but you know an average Nigerian is reckless and does not want to obey the law, that is why I called for strict enforcement , the full weight of the law should be made to bear on those who default. You can see that we are going back to Egypt again and it is not good for us or the economy. My take is that the NPA should provide the companies involved with all the necessary support, there should be a kind of coercive law because Nigerians don’t obey the law unless it comes by force.

NPA needs to show commitment, they need to show that truly they are against the corruption that this gridlock has created, let them enforce the law. I don’t know why we will continue to do things as if we are living in the jungle, there is need for NPA to enforce the law, let them go all out and arrest any truck or person who fail to comply.

NPA has a lot of things to do about it as they are not doing the needful, look at the kind of trucks that goes into the port to pick containers which they are not supposed to, they need to start working on those things to make sure that the right thing is done
There was a time we were given a matching order to do so, but they later stopped it, but they should start it again in order for us to get things working, things must work out.

The e-call will work only when the authority is committed to making it work, NPA is doing their best, but their best is not enough, they need to study and know the root cause of why we are having this hiccups, so as to know where to tackle the problem from. Nigeria is a lawless country; hardly will anyone want to obey laws and regulations, so they also need to enforce sanction and I believe the e call up will work on the long run.

I believe there should be concerted effort on the part of government in ensuring that they resolve the gridlock in Apapa. Yes, the e-call up is a brilliant idea, but it is not just enough, they have to ensure strict enforcement for them to get the desired result we all expect.
