Why Vehicles Stay Longer At Automobile Shops —- Dealers

A survey conducted by Auto Port Weekly has revealed that most of the vehicles on display at the popular automobile markets in the country stay longer on the ‘shelf’ because of greed on the part of the dealers.
Many at times, the so-called dealers are not the authentic owners of the vehicles, but in order to make appreciable profit they jack up the owner’s recommended price and in turn discourage the potential buyer.

Our correspondent gathered that the fairly-used vehicle dealers are fond of these acts which sometimes create misunderstanding between them and the authentic owners of the vehicles.
Apart from the economic hardship across the country which most of dealers claimed to the major factor why vehicles are not sold easily, self-indulgence on the part the dealers contribute immensely to why vehicles are not sold on time.
Investigation also revealed that at the popular Berger market along the Apapa – Oshodi expressway in Lagos, there are some vehicles that have spent more than two years at the largest automobile market as a result of this factor.
According to an importer who identified himself as Best Aloysius, it is better for an importer to personally handle the sale of his vehicles after importing them, because those that claimed to be dealers or traders are a major setback to their business.
He said that, ‘’if not for the fact that we importers are very busy with traveling and other issues,  it would have been better for one to sell the vehicles the way he or she wants it because most of these guys that front for us are not helping matters at all”.
‘’I gave a dealer  a Toyota Car for N900, 000 to sell for over seven months because I insisted that he sold the vehicle at that price, but I find out that he wanted to sell that vehicle for N1.1million, which he may not understand why I wanted to sell the vehicle at that point in time “.
‘’Barely a month after I collected that vehicle from the person, I sold it to someone at N950,000 and I believe that they are the major reason why vehicles do not go out of the market or display spots on time, ’’Aloysius added.
