The President,  Nigeria Institute of Shipping [NIS); Chief Caleb Okoye has revealed the reason for cancelling last year’s Memorandum of Understanding [MOU] signed by NIS and  Emdee Schools for the accommodation of the Shipping College of Nigeria,
In a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos, recently, Okoye disclosed that as a marriage between two partners, they ought not be a third party adding that Emdee schools went behind to accomodate another school in the premises.
He said that the MoU signed with Emdee school has it that the shipping college is supposed to be the only school that would occupy the premises, adding that there was a little mix up and that eventually led to the withdrawal of NIS.
Chief Okoye said that,’” it was a marriage of two partners but unfortunately the Emdee school went behind and brought in the University of Ibadan in the same premises and we looked at it and say that since we are two partners with small conflict, we have to find our way because our institute which has been in existence for the past 25 years can stand on our own’’.
‘’We have been planning and re-planning about the take off the shipping college and we are hoping that in the next two weeks the school will flag off”, he assured.
The president however noted that the Nigeria Shipping College will fully commence operations at the national headquarters of Nigeria Institute of Shipping in Apapa any moment from now, adding that all is now set to create an enabling environment for learning to thrive.
According to him, admission is on for students into the new institute.
He also said that NIS will hold its Annual General Meeting at the end of October, pointing out that elections will be conducted for new executive to run the affairs of the institute.
