• Hails Talod Oceanair Freight

It was a day of encomium for foremost indigenous freight forwarding company, Talod Oceanair Freight Limited last week as visiting president of World Cargo Alliance, Mr David Yokeum and others commended the company for its credible profile.

Mr Yokeum who led a three- member delegation of the global freight forwarding networking group on a familiarisation visit to Nigeria applauded the chief executive officer of Talod, Alhaji Hakeem Olanrewaju who is also the vice chairman of Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), for beaming the light of Nigerian freight forwarders within the comity of international freight forwarding practitioners.

He said the WCA was interested in admitting genuine and trustworthy freight forwarders into its fold and that Talod represents just that, even as he acknowledged that freight forwarding is not only a highly risky profession, but also low profit margin venture.

The WCA team which also included the vice president for Africa, Mr Gangadhar Iyer was in Nigeria on the invitation of the Talod chief executive who also hosted the delegation at the company’s corporate head office in Apapa, Lagos. He also facilitated a meeting with the CRFFN and the minister of transport, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman.

Speaking to maritime journalists shortly after the ceremony which was also attended by the national president, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, Prince Olayiwola Shittu and a director in the company, Mr Wale Odu, Alhaji Olanrewaju disclosed that he was motivated to invite WCA to Nigeria because of the immense advantages that Nigerian freight forwarding firms will derive from becoming members.

He said that as a member of many global freight forwarding associations, he does not feel comfortable being alone at most of the international conferences, hence his decision to expose more freight forwarders to the global bodies.

“We need to expose ourselves to global best practices; we can not just sit down here in Nigeria and be doing things locally.  I am a member of   FIATA and TIACA and other global associations, WCA is one of the best networking companies in freight forwarding”, he explained.

He disclosed that he has also used his position as the vice chairman of CRFFN to advise freight forwarders to associate with their foreign counterparts and be part of the global freight forwarding family.

Giving an insight into the visit of the president of WCA to Nigeria, the CRFFN vice chair, disclosed that he has been meeting and relating with the WCA family at different fora, hence his invitation to the president to come and visit Nigeria.
