The Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos has granted the embattled frontline freight forwarder, Mr  Lucky Amiwero bail in the case between him and the Attorney General of the Federation.
Putting paid to speculations that he may spend more days in Ikoyi prison where he was remanded since Monday April 30, Justice J.O Okeke alst Friday granted the prayers of Mr Amiwero’s counsel, Barrister Osuala Nwagbara for bail.
He was consequently granted bail in the sum of N5Million and one surety in like sum, even as he adjourned the case till May 18 and 19, 2012.
Shipping Position Daily confirmed that Mr Amiwero’s surety is Alhaji Nafiu Inaolaji, the chief executive officer of Har Link Investments Limited, which is believed to be a freight forwarding firm belonging to a member of Mr Amiwero’s faction of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents.
Counsel to Mr Amiwero confirmed to our correspondent on Friday afternoon that he was certain that his client would go home that day.
Mr Amiwero is standing trial on a four count charge which include allegedly issuing a document ‘to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” without authority to do so,  giving false of information to the office of the President of the Federal Republic, which you know to be false ….”.
In the third charge, he was accused of forging “a document written to the office of the President of the Federal Republic as a chairman of National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents , which you are not”.
Finally, he was accused of obstructing and resisting “men and officers of the Nigeria Customs Service in the discharge of their lawful duty”.
Before he was arraigned before the Judge on Manday, April 30, he had spent five days in the custody of the Customs Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja, Lagos.  When he was finally brought before the Judge, his counsel prayed the court to grant his client bail.
However, the prosecution counsel, Mr MA Ajakaiye also prayed for time to study the request, a demand which the Judge granted and which necessitated Mr Amiwero being remanded in Ikoyi till last Friday
