Tanker under quarantine, 2 crew hospitalized

Four crew of tanker; SONGA SAPPHIRE were tested positive at Tarragona, Spain, on Jul 7. The ship has been put under quarantine, while 2 out of 4 positive tested were taken to hospital, because of their health deterioration. Tanker arrived from Algeciras, prior to Algeciras she called Dunkirk France and Rotterdam, so probably, her crew were jabbed somewhere along the way, or boarded the ship already vaccinated.

Bulk carrier under quarantine, 3 crew hospitalized

Bulk carrier; SHOVELER arrived at Recife anchorage, Brazil, on Jul 1, on Jul 2 she was taken to berth and put under quarantine, with 9 crew out of 19 tested positive, 3 of them being hospitalized. The ship remains berthed. The ship sailed from Halmstad Sweden with cargo of malt, port of destination Paranagua Brazil, though previous records show, it changed twice, from Paranagua to Recife and Paranagua again. It is not clear if Recife call was a medical emergency or some kind of protocol, in case of crew showing illness symptoms. During her voyage in EU waters, the ship called Rouen France, in Jun 15-17 period. Was it for the purpose of vaccination, or crew change, or bunkering/supplies, is unknown. Symptoms and condition of hospitalized seamen are also unknown.

Tanker interrupted voyage in the Atlantic after mass crew illness

Bitumen tanker IVER AMBITION interrupted her voyage from Netherlands to Trois-Rivières Canada, and sailed to Conception Bay, southeast coast of Newfoundland, Canada, on Jul 3. Understood the ship reported mass crew illness on board. Tanker anchored in Conception Bay on Jul 4, 12 crew were tested positive, all said to remain on board.

Vietnamese cargo ship sank in Hainan waters, crew rescued

General cargo ship issued distress signal at around 1430 Beijing time Jul 7, east of Haikou, Hainan island, China, South China sea. Master reported cargo shift, heavy portside list, crew preparing to abandon vessel. MRCC Qinglan corrdinated SAR with deployment of rescue ship and nearby cargo ships. All 12 crew were rescued by Chinese freighter REN SHUN DA, all are said to be safe. Not yet clear what happened to the ship, whether she sank or is still adrift. Last AIS signal dated 0800 UTC Jul 7.
