07.02.2022: 1726 UTC: Posn: 01:14.4N – 104:04.0E, Singapore Straits.Four robbers boarded a tanker underway. They entered the engine room and attempted to steal engine spares. 3/E noticed the robbers, reported to the bridge, and raised the alarm. Upon hearing the alarm, the robbers escaped without stealing anything. All crew safe.

07.02.2022: 1714 UTC: Posn: Balikpapan Inner Anchorage, Indonesia.

BALIKPAPAN_BAY

During anchor watch on bridge of a product tanker, duty lookout saw a rope being thrown over the forecastle. Two robbers were noticed climbing onboard and forcing their way into the bosun store. General alarm activated and crew mustered. Hearing the alarm and seeing the crew alertness, the robbers jumped overboard and escaped in their boat with two accomplices. A search was carried out throughout the tanker. Ship’s stores were reported stolen.

08.02.2022: 0315 UTC: Posn: 08:44.3S – 013:17.7E, Luanda Anchorage, Angola.

Unnoticed, robbers boarded an anchored LPG tanker and escaped with ship’s properties and stores. The theft was noticed by duty crew on routine rounds. On conducting a search, it was identified that the perpetrators had gained access via the hawse pipe. Incident reported to port control.

 

.ACCIDENTS

Tanker Damaged By Rough Weather While Offloading Diesel, Lebanon

TANKER DAMAGED

Steering gear (rudder, supposedly) of product tanker PYXIS EPSILON was damaged in rough weather on Feb 6 at Amchit Anchorage, Lebanon. Understood tanker, loaded with 42,000 tons of diesel oil, was in process of offloading cargo, when accident occurred. Cargo operations were immediately stopped, no leak reported. Tanker arrived from Turkey via Beirut. Circumstances of accident unknown, extent of damage also unknown.

7 cargo dhows burned out in Iran

7 cargo dhows, 2 fiberglass and 5 wooden, burned out at Nakhl Taghi port, Bushehr Province, Iran, early in the morning Feb 8. Understood some of them have been in load. No casualties, no injuries reported.

Tanker in load breached, engine room flooded, heavy tilt, Azores

Product tanker SAO JORGE ran aground early in the morning Feb 8 in the strait between island Graciosa and small islet Praia, shortly after leaving Praia da Graciosa port. Understood it was more of contact than grounding, tanker was anchored after the accident, but she suffered propeller damages and underwate hull breach in engine room area, with ensuing water ingress. Tanker developed a heavy aft tilt, but understood, she’s still afloat. She’s loaded with diesel and gasoline, no leaks reported, so far.
